Ian is a private veterinary practitioner, principally working with horses (Graduated 1980, BVSC(Hons) Univ of Melb). Over the last 20 years he has concentrated solely on treating spinal and upper body dysfunction, using acupuncture, chiropractic, osteopathy and regenerative injection therapy. Saddle Fit and Design are two of his back related passions.
In addition to a Veterinary Degree Ian has a Master of Chiropractic Science Degree (Animal Chiropractic), from RMIT University (2002). First certified in chiropractic in 1995(AVCA) and acupuncture (IVAS) 1995. He has had many mentors in both disciplines.
Ian lectured in Animal Chiropractic for RMIT University from 2002 to 2009. He has presented at many veterinary conferences, both in Australia and overseas.
Over the last 10 years Ian has been using regenerative injection therapy (dextrose prolotherapy) in horses for upper body and spinal enthesial strain issues. Initially studying prolotherapy through medical and sports medicine prolotherapy courses, he has developed a real appreciation for the importance of enthesial strain and has translated a good deal of the teachings of medical prolotherapy to the shoulder, neck, spine, sacro-iliac region and stifle of horses. He believes enthesial strain is of huge importance in the development of spinal and upper body pain and dysfunction.
Since 2000 Ian has been the principal instructor at around 25 Saddle Fit Accreditation and Advanced Accreditation courses for Accredited Saddle Fitters of Australasia. He is also the editor of the course manuals. (Both courses are currently 4 days courses with ongoing study, mentorship and examination). He is rated as a Master Saddle Fitter by ASFA.
