Jonathan qualified from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh in 2000 and went on to perform an equine internship position at the San Luis Rey Equine Hospital under the mentorship of the renowned equine neurosurgeon Dr Barrie Grant. This was followed by a short spell at the Rainbow Equine Hospital as an ambulatory veterinarian prior to undertaking a one year large animal surgical fellowship at the University of Oregon Veterinary Teaching Hospital and then completing an equine surgical residency at the University of California, Davis Veterinary Hospital.  He remained at Davis as a staff surgeon and lameness specialist for a further 18 months during which time he successfully completed the examinations to become a Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.  He then moved back to the Rainbow Equine Hospital in 2009 to join the surgical and advanced imaging department. Jonathan became a director of Rainbow Equine Hospital in 2013 and has specific interest in equine orthopaedics, neurology and surgery. He has published several peer reviewed journal articles and has lectured in both the US and the UK on a range of topics relating to lameness and equine neurology.
