Martin Weaver graduated as a veterinary surgeon from Glasgow University in 1986. After a couple of years in mixed practice in North Yorkshire he did an intership and DrMedVet dissertation in cattle surgery at the Ludwig-Maximilians Universität, München, followed by another intership at Tierklinik Hochmoor in Germany. He did an equine residency at Cambridge University School of Veterinary Medicine, focussing on diagnostic imaging and gained his RCVS Certificate and Diploma in Veterinary Radiology. His PhD research concerned navicular disease, and in 1997 he was appointed to a lectureship in large animal surgery at University College Dublin. He returned to Scotland in 2002 as senior lecturer in equine surgery and orthopaedics at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh. He has lectured widely both nationally and internationally on equine diagnostic imaging and lameness.
