European Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine
Rachael qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1997 and, after a period in mixed practice in Wales, completed a residency in Equine Internal Medicine at the University of Liverpool. During this time she gained the RCVS Certificate in Equine Internal Medicine. Following her residency, Rachael worked in equine practices in Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire and Yorkshire, undertaking both first opinion and referral internal medicine work. In 2008 she established EquiMed Referrals Ltd, a mobile consultancy service in equine internal medicine, servicing the North East of England. Particular interests include gastric ulceration, investigation of weight loss and chronic colic. Rachael obtained the European Diploma in Equine Internal Medicine in 2010. During this year she also worked at the University of Liverpool Philip Leverhulme Large Animal Hospital as a locum hospital clinician on the equine medicine service. Rachael has published in peer-reviewed veterinary journals and regularly lectures and teaches at national and international courses on equine internal medicine. She is an examiner for the RCVS Certificates in Advanced Veterinary Practice (equine internal medicine and equine practice). Rachel also provides veterinary services to several three day event competitions in the UK each year, as well as being involved with the working equid charities The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust and SPANA.
