RCVS Specialist in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics)
I am Dr. Svend Erik Kold, Dr.Med.Vet, CUEW, RFP, MRCVS, RCVS Specialist in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics). My specialist field is equine surgery (orthopaedics). I work as an independent consultant equine orthopaedic surgeon, receiving many hundreds of referral cases from other colleagues every year. I have 32 years experience in this field, consisting of 10 years in academia and orthopaedic research and a Doctorate Thesis (by examination) in orthopaedic disease in 1990 followed by a sabbatical year at Colorado State University and 20 years in specialist equine practice. I have published extensively, including 21 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and given more than 150 lectures to learned audiences. I have received Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons recognition as a Specialist in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics) since 1993 (ongoing). I am in full-time equine clinical work, including a significant surgical caseload. I have for 30 years lectured extensively at Congresses and meetings both in the UK and Europe and arrange, co-ordinate and lecture at CPD-courses. I am co-author of ‘Clinical Radiology of the Horse’ which has become a standard textbook in radiology in the horse and is now in its third edition. I am senior veterinary surgeon at Ascot Racecourse and an inspector of equine hospitals for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. I have prepared approximately 150 expert witness reports for both claimants and defendants and have attended County and High Court in England, Ireland, Sweden and Denmark. I have acted as a judicial assessor in the Danish Courts. I was elected to The Council for the Registration of Forensic Practitioners (CRFP) and am a Cardiff University/Bond Solon accredited expert witness (by examination). I am a member of the UK Register of Expert Witnesses and the Expert Witness Institute.
