COURSE DESCRIPTION

This two-day practical course was developed for equine and mixed animal practitioners who are keen to further develop their skills in the field of equine musculoskeletal radiography,  be it as a recent graduate or as a vet with extensive radiography experience.  The lectures will be held in English, very practically applicable, and will focus on radiographic techniques and image interpretation in the lame and non-lame horse.  The panel of world-renowned diagnostic imagers will share common technical pitfalls, practical tips and tricks, erroneous image interpretations and pearls of wisdom openly and honestly with the attendees.  The intended goal of this course is for every attendee to be competent at taking radiographs of every part of the equine skeleton by the end of the 2nd day and to correctly interpreting them.

As part of the 9 hours of case-discussions and x-ray wetlabs on live horses attendees will get plenty of opportunities to further their radiography skills at the following stations:

  • Acquiring good x-rays of the Foot, Pastern & Fetlock on live horses
  • X-ray Technique of the Carpus & Elbow on live horses
  • Acquiring good x-rays of the Tarsus & Stifle on live horses
  • X-ray Technique for Shoulder & Neck on live horses
  • Acquiring good x-rays of the Hip & Pelvis on live horses
  • X-ray Technique for the Back on live horses
  • Foot, Pastern & Fetlock Case-Discussions
  • Carpus & Tarsus Case-Discussions
  • Stifle Case-Discussions
  • Elbow, Shoulder & Neck Case-Discussions
  • Back, Hip & Pelvis Case-Discussions
  • Pre-Purchase Case-Discussions                                                              

The course fee includes lunches at a restaurant, coffee/tea breaks, a wine & cheese reception, extensive electronic course notes and a certificate of attendance. On the evening of the first day all attendees are invited to attend the wine & cheese reception. Attendees can choose to only attend the lectures (= Lectures-Only) on this course or can register for the entire course (= Lectures, Case-Discussions & Practical Sessions).

    Ceri graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2004 before joining Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic, UK as an intern. She then embarked on a specialised surgical residency and Masters program in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Georgia in America. After completion of the residency and Masters programs, Ceri remained in America as a Clinical Instructor in Large Animal Surgery until 2011. She then returned to the UK and took up an equine surgical position at The University of Nottingham. Ceri returned to Bell Equine in 2012 to do a 3-year residency in Diagnostic Imaging in conjunction with the Royal Veterinary College. She has published a number of scientific articles on aspects of equine surgery and diagnostic imaging, and although Ceri spends a lot of her time looking at images in dark rooms, she has also continued to pursue her clinical and surgical interests at Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic.

    Annamaria qualified in 2004 in Hungary. After two internships at Dubai Equine Hospital and the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, UK, she spent some time in an equine ambulatory practice and then completed a residency in equine diagnostic imaging at the University of Bristol. Following her residency she worked as an equine orthopaedic clinician at the AHT. Annamaria was awarded an RCVS Fellowship for her thesis on magnetic resonance imaging of the carpus and proximal metacarpal region and a PhD for her work on epidemiology of eliminations from international endurance rides. In 2016 Annamaria became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and in 2017 she was awarded the RCVS Specialist status in Equine Sports Medicine. Annamaria has published over 20 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been a speaker at national and international conferences. She is currently a Senior Orthopaedic Clinician at the Animal Health Trust.
