COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course has been designed to equip the equine practitioners with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to make the most of their abilities and ultrasound machine, in the diagnosis and treatment of frequently encountered equine musculoskeletal conditions affecting the front- and hindlimbs. This course is suitable for all vets aiming to improve their knowledge and skills in this area, as the practical sessions will be adapted to the attendees’ skill levels.
The course will run over two days, with a focus on highly illustrated lectures which will be systematically approached:
The speakers will be sharing invaluable tips/tricks and pearls of wisdom with the attendees during the 7 hours of practical sessions in small groups (2 – 4 vets per ultrasound machine) on live horses. Each attendee will be able to extensively hone his/her practical skills at the following practical stations:
The course fee includes hot lunches, coffee/tea breaks, extensive electronic course notes and a certificate of attendance. Attendees can choose to only attend the lectures (= Lectures Only) on this course or can register for the entire course (= Lectures & Practical Sessions). Early course registration is recommended as there are only a limited number of places available due to the highly practical nature of this course.

Alex graduated from the University of Sydney with an interest in equine practice and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology (DACVR) in 2013 with additional specialisation in Equine Diagnostic Imaging in 2021 (DACVR-EDI). She has worked as a Clinical Academic for both the University of Sydney and the University of Queensland since the completion of her specialist training and is currently the Director of Alex Young Specialist Veterinary Imaging, providing a teleradiology service for equine veterinarians both nationally and internationally. Alex has a strong interest in imaging for the diagnosis, monitoring and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries as well as the use of advanced imaging modalities to help us obtain an accurate diagnosis in more challenging cases.

Dr. Barrett is an associate professor of equine diagnostic imaging Colorado State University. Dr. Barrett's primary research and clinical interests are equine musculoskeletal imaging and comparative imaging, and she works closely with the equine surgery and sports medicine services. She is a founding partner of Inside information Radiology, a dedicated equine teleradiology service. She routinely speaks at equine veterinary meetings and is regularly involved in continuing education courses, including courses that draw an international audience. Dr. Barrett is dedicated to the advancement of the specialty of equine diagnostic imaging and is currently the president of an AVMA newly recognized subspecialty – ACVR-Equine Diagnostic Imaging. Outside of work, she enjoys biking, skiing, riding horses, and spending time with her family.

Sue graduated from Dublin and was in a private practice in the UK for 5 Years then locumed across Australia before completing a fellowship in Ultrasonography at UC Davis in California (only two of these programs in the world), and are both in the United States with only two people who have completed the fellowship currently in Australia).
Sue has also spent a year as a junior lecturer at the University of Adelaide before completing a 3 year sports medicine residency at the University of Melbourne, while also successfully sitting her Australian membership examinations in large animal radiology.
Outside of vet, Sue enjoys playing hockey.

Pullenvale Hall is 32 km (35 min drive, depending on traffic) from Brisbane Airport via the M5 route (note – tolls apply) or 40.5 km (55 min drive, depending on traffic) via the Airport Link route.
