COURSE DESCRIPTION

Back and sacroiliac problems are amongst the most debilitating conditions affecting equine athletes.  Local injections of medications do not usually resolve the problems long-term unless combined with a comprehensive rehabilitation program and the introduction of management changes.

This practical course was developed for equine practitioners with a good working knowledge of back and sacroiliac conditions and covers how to use therapeutic modalities effectively in combination with comprehensive exercise protocols aimed at strengthening the back/gluteal musculature.

To participate in the On-Location Portion, attendees are required to have first worked through the  corresponding online Lecture Series ‘Rehabilitation for Equine Back & Sacroiliac Conditions':

  • If you have already purchased the Lecture Series independently of the On-Location Portion, please contact the office on office@vetpd.com for a voucher code to reduce the price accordingly.

The world-renowned specialists will be discussing the following topics interactively with the attendees:

  • The Physiotherapist’s Approach to Back & Sacroiliac Conditions
  • Physiotherapist’s Evaluation of the Equine Back & Pelvis
  • Therapeutic Modalities for Back & SI Conditions – Therapeutic Laser, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, Electrical Stimulation, Rapid Release Technology & Radiofrequency Therapy
  • Therapeutic Exercise for Back & Sacroiliac Problems
  • The Importance of Saddle Fit
  • Development of Treatment Plans for Back & SI Conditions
  • Underwater Treadmill
  • Therapeutic Monitoring of Back & SI Conditions
  • Return to Sport – The Progression incl. Management Changes
  • Home Exercise Programs for your Clients
  • Injury Prevention & Maintenance
  • Conditioning & Performance Enhancement
  • Horse, Saddle & Rider Interactions

Day 1 starts at 15:00h with 3 hours of interactive Case-Discussions, Q&A which will give attendees the unique opportunity to apply what they have learned during Lecture Series in discussion with the world-renowned specialists.  This will then be followed by the obligatory Wine & Cheese Reception allowing for attendees to socialise with colleagues and the speakers/instructors.

On the second day, 7 hours of case-based and practical small-groups sessions on live horses will allow attendees to become familiar with therapeutic modalities and physical therapy exercises that can be passed on to horse owners.   Each attendee will rotate through the following stations:

  • Physiotherapist’s Evaluation of Back & Sacroiliac Problems
  • Therapeutic Exercises for Back & SI Problems – Improving Proprioception & Core Stability
  • Physiotherapy – Manual Treatment Techniques
  • Biomechanical Interplay of Horse, Saddle & Rider
  • Development of Home Exercise Programs for your Clients
  • Therapeutic Modalities for Back & SI Problems – Aquatic Therapy & Other Modalities

The course fee includes, coffee/tea breaks, a wine & cheese reception, lunch and a certificate of attendance. To participate in the On-Location Case-Discussions & Practical Sessions, attendees are required to have first worked through the Lecture Series (included in the price).  Early course registration is recommended as there are only a limited number of places available due to the highly practical nature of this course.

Very user friendly, quite informal, a lot packed in 2 days but brilliant content. Learnt loads, and increased my confidence. Would highly recommend.
