COURSE DESCRIPTION

This highly practical 2-day course has been developed for small animal veterinarians with an interest in canine and feline breeding management, pregnancy and neonatal care.

A combination of lectures and hands-on laboratory exercises are designed to give active veterinarians both the knowledge and skills to confidently approach reproductive cases ranging from breeding management to early neonatal care, with case-based discussions supplementing difficult questions like high-risk pregnancy, best-practices for dystocia management and emergency treatments for sick neonates.

Paired lecture-series and laboratory sessions will give veterinarians entering this area of medicine the skill-set to jump right in, while deepening the more experienced veterinarians’ knowledge with a focus on the physiology and pathophysiology of common problems, and practical tips for addressing tough cases. Each topic below will be covered with a series of 2-4 lectures and hands-on sessions:

  • Applied reproductive physiology of the bitch & queen
  • Semen handling & insemination
  • Pregnancy diagnosis & management
  • Physiology & care of the neonate

Laboratory sessions will be designed as small group sessions with live animals/cadavers and laboratory tests, facilitated by experienced veterinarians and specialists.

The course fee includes lunches, coffee/tea breaks, extensive electronic course notes and a certificate of attendance.  On the evening of the first day all attendees are invited to attend a complimentary Wine & Cheese Reception at the clinic, which will be followed by an optional informal dinner at a local venue (not included in the course fee).  Early course registration is recommended as there are only a limited number of places available.
