Gain Clinical Confidence in Equine Podiatry
➤ Are you confident in your ability to make evidence-based foot care decisions?
➤ Do you wish you could collaborate and communicate more effectively with farriers?
➤ Are you looking to refine your therapeutic skills with guidance from top experts?
Foot-related lameness is one of the most common and challenging areas in equine practice—and often one of the most debated. With many vets entering practice with limited formal training in aspects of farriery, confidently navigating podiatry cases can feel daunting.
The Advances in Equine Podiatry Workshop is designed to change that.
This advanced 2-day program blends pre-course online lectures with in-depth in-person training and practical workshops to elevate your skills, clinical reasoning, and decision-making in equine foot care. You’ll work alongside world-leading experts—Simon Moore (UK farrier) and Prof. Michael Schramme (equine surgery specialist)—to tackle cases with clarity and confidence.
What You’ll Gain
✔ A deeper understanding of foot biomechanics, shoeing impact & diagnostic approaches
✔ Practical decision-making tools for managing foot balance, navicular bone disease, laminitis, deep digital flexor tendonitis, hoof cracks & wounds
✔ Confidence in collaborating with farriers and applying corrective shoeing strategies
✔ Hands-on experience with shoeing techniques & shoe selection, quarter crack repair, foot casting, and diagnostic blocks on live horses and specimens

Simon Moore was born into a circus family in1971 and his father was a lion tamer. Deciding not to follow his father’s career, he started his farriery apprenticeship with Paul Atkins RSS in 1989 and passed the DipWCF in 1993.
He set up business in Essex where he primarily shod sports horses. During this time he met Ruth and they married in 1996; they have four children. In 1998, they relocated to Cornwall. In 2003, Simon established Cornwall’s first farriery practice – Equine Foot Care – in partnership with Paul Martin DipWCF, concentrating on training apprentices. In 2011, he gained the AWCF and the FWCF in 2016. He currently lectures at Duchy College, teaches clinics and he is a regular tutor on the BFBA’s AWCF preparation course. He is a WCF examiner and farriery consultant to a number of veterinary clinics in Cornwall. He is chairman of BFBA Cornwall branch and intends to do a research masters in farriery and become more involved in the training and education of apprentices.

“Well organized and very informative. Excellent interaction with speakers”
- Catherine Hunnisett, Horseshoe Veterinary Services, Ontario, Canada. Evidence-Based Farriery for Equine Practitioners course 2016
“I really wanted to thank you once more for the excellent VetPD course in Oslo, which I had the opportunity to attend. After 26 years being a vet I finally have a clear concept for what is going on in a foot of a horse. By this you gave me the possibility to approach a problem in the foot systematically and with a certain logic. I am highly motivated for my future work with horses and their feet and could already use some of the new gained knowledge in two foals this week.”
- Barbara Knutti, Veterinary practice KLC, Corcelles-près-Payerne, Switzerland Evidence-Based Farriery 2016
