PANEL DISCUSSION DESCRIPTION

Routine urogenital surgeries are frequently required and commonly undertaken in small animal general practice (spays, castrations, cystotomies, urethrostomies, etc..).

Join our team of world-leading multidisciplinary specialists in this exciting panel discussion where they will discuss and debate the commonly encountered pitfalls and management of postoperative complications following routine surgical procedures of the urogenital tract, including haemorrhage, urine leakage, urinary tract infection, haematuria, urethral stricture, ovarian remnant syndrome, scrotal swelling, and much more.

Case examples will be used to highlight key points and share useful tips. This is a unique opportunity for attending veterinarians to share their experience and ask questions of our experts.

Dr Hamaide graduated in 1990 from the University of Liège, Belgium. She did her residency in Small Animal Surgery at Michigan State University and became European Specialist in Surgery (ECVS) in 1998. She also holds a PhD thesis on the study of vesico-urethral function in the dog. She is currently Professor of Surgical Oncology and Chair of the Department of Companion Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Liège.

Annika qualified from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden in 1999. After graduating Annika started to work as a clinician at the University Animal Hospital before staring a PhD and thereafter a residency in 2004. She became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2009. Following her residency, she worked as senior lecturer in Uppsala and in 2020 she became an Associate Professor. Annika is now working as a veterinary surgeon at AniCura Animal Hospital in Sweden and continues to publish articles having supervised PhD students as well as residents. She lectures regularly at national courses/conferences on small animal surgery.
