ONLINE LECTURE SERIES DESCRIPTION
Over the past twenty years the number of older horses has increased exponentially as a result of significant advances in equine medicine and horses having increasingly become companion animals. This has led to a plethora of new medical and husbandry challenges for veterinarians dealing with an aging equine population. Aimed at equine practitioners, the webinar series covers the most important areas affecting older horses, such as weight-loss, dental challenges, Cushings, OA, laminitis, shoeing techniques, cardiopulmonary conditions, neoplasia and how to keep the senior sports horse competing etc.

Dr. Tracy Norman grew up in Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed foxhunting. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002 and completed an internship at Blue Ridge Equine in 2003. She completed an internal medicine residency at Texas A&M University, and is board certified in large animal internal medicine (equine focus). She has completed training in veterinary acupuncture at the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. She has spent 6 years as an academic veterinarian at Texas A&M focusing on internal medicine and advanced ultrasound techniques. While there, she acted as the service chief for internal medicine and ultrasound and authored a number of scientific papers on internal medicine and ultrasound. Dr. Norman’s professional interests include diagnostic and interventional ultrasound, sports medicine, and internal medicine. She is very active in the American Association of Equine Practitioners. What she likes best about being an equine veterinarian at BREC: “Being part of a team of supportive veterinarians who are all dedicated to excellence. And the gorgeous Valley sunrises!”
More InfoRob qualified from the University of Bristol in 1999 and started in mixed practice in North Devon immediately afterwards. During the next two years he became very interested in equine dentistry and moved back to the University of Bristol to join their equine practice to further hone his skills. There he worked with recognised experts in equine dental disease. He also attended courses run by the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) and has since become a tutor on all the BEVA dentistry courses. Rob has also travelled widely to lecture on equine dentistry, with regular visits to the USA.
In October 2003, he sat the British Equine Veterinary and British Veterinary Dental Associations’ exam in equine dentistry and became only the second veterinary surgeon in the UK to successfully pass and achieve BEVA/BVDA approved status. In 2004, he became an examiner for the BEVA/BVDA equine dentistry exam and was appointed as the chairman of the examination committee from 2005 to 2008. Rob joined Bell Equine Clinic in 2006, bringing both first opinion and referral dentistry services to the practice. He now runs Equine Dentistry Referrals Ltd in the UK.
More InfoWith his native language being Welsh, Ieuan comes from a large farming and successful showjumping family. He graduated from Liverpool Vet School in 1979.
Ieuan is a founder member of the Rainbow Equine Hospital (REH), now one of the largest equine hospitals in the UK. Rainbow have always been on the front line of advanced imaging – being one of the earliest to use nuclear scintigraphy and the world first to perform standing CT in horses.
Before his retirement this year Ieuan had a very busy schedule treating and preparing sport horses for premier competitions and tours; together with the enjoyable work of Prior to Purchase Examinations. His aim at Rainbow Equine Hospital was to help produce enthusiastic, hard working and well-grounded Veterinarians - which provided satisfied patients and clients.
Ieuan has vetted top quality horses all around the world and had a reputation of straight talking and not sitting on the fence, which his clients appreciated.
Outside work he is married to Mary, an international dressage rider and between them they have eight lovely children. Being a proud Welshman Ieuan played rugby at a high level and was also a boxing champion and captained his country. In his retirement he will now have more time to assist and focus on Mary’s horses, spending more quality time with his family, children and grand- children.
More InfoJamie undertook a bachelors in Veterinary Pathology at the Royal Veterinary College as an intercalated degree during his veterinary degree at The University of Liverpool. Upon graduation he started working at a mixed large animal clinic in Yorkshire. Following a year and a half in this role, Jamie started an internship at Rossdales Equine Hospital in Suffolk. While there he became interested in Equine Internal Medicine and after the internship moved to California to start an Internal Medicine Residency at The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, University of California, Davis. Jamie gained Diplomat status from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in July 2015. His interests, beyond internal medicine, lie with cardiology, neurology and GI disease.
More InfoMichael Schramme qualified as a veterinarian from the University of Gent, Belgium, in 1985. He has since worked as a resident, lecturer, senior lecturer or associate professor in equine surgery at the University of Ghent, the Royal Veterinary College (London), the Animal Health Trust (Newmarket), Cornell University (New York) and North Carolina State University (USA). In 2011, Dr. Schramme was appointed Professor in Equine Surgery and Orthopaedics at the Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire de Lyon, VetAgro Sup in France. He holds the Certificate in Equine Orthopaedics, the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons, the Diploma of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and Associate Diplomate status of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. He has a PhD in equine rheumatology. Dr. Schramme is President of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and ex-President of the European Society of Veterinary Orthopaedics and Traumatology. He has an interest in all aspects of large animal surgery, lameness and diagnostic imaging with special emphasis on MRI and regenerative medicine.
More InfoVictoria graduated from Cambridge University in 2006, and worked as an ambulatory equine vet for several years before becoming a resident in Equine Internal Medicine, in March 2009. She became a European and RCVS recognised specialist in Equine Internal Medicine in 2013, and was part of the medicine referral team at Liphook Equine Hospital for more than a decade. More recently, she works as a consultant, and is a part-time lecturer and clinical lead at the University of Cambridge School of Veterinary Medicine. She is working towards an MSc in Evidence Based Healthcare at the University of Oxford. Victoria also works for the FEI (eventing and endurance) and is a Level 1 OV and PTV. Victoria is passionate about the dissemination of evidence into practice, and promoting innovation in practice. Her specific areas of interest include endocrinopathies, antimicrobial stewardship, ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, and clinical pathology.
