CONTENT DESCRIPTION
An international multidisciplinary panel consisting of a world-renowned criticalist, surgeon and anaesthesiologist will discuss their therapeutic and diagnostic approaches to 3 common abdominal emergency surgeries: gastric dilatation-volvulus, haemoperitoneum, and diaphragmatic hernia. The panelists will discuss emergency/critical care, anaesthetic and surgical considerations, share helpful tips & tricks on these surgical conditions and debate differing opinions. Information to be discussed will include:
1. GDV: Resuscitation, gastric decompression and gastropexy techniques, gastric resection, splenectomy – yes or now, prophylactic gastropexy during other emergency surgical procedures, and post-operative orders that help the gastrointestinal tract work faster.
2. Haemoperitoneum: Preoperative resuscitation endpoints, rapid celiotomy approach, rapid removal of the most affected organs, transfusion options, and post-operative complications to monitor for.
3. Diaphragmatic Hernia: How to handle respiratory distress, challenges with anesthetic induction and maintenance, surgical tips and pitfalls, and necessary post-operative monitoring.
Bring your worst- and best-case questions as we explore the acute surgical abdomen via an interactive exchange with plenty of opportunity to comment and ask questions.
