Omar graduated Veterinary School in Rabat, Morocco (Institut Agronomic et Veterinaire Hassan II). After an internship at the Veterinary school of Lyon, France, he went on to complete a second internship at the Rochester Equine Clinic, at which he stayed a second year as a junior clinician. Omar undertook his Equine Surgery residency at the University of California, Davis. He Joined the New England Medical and Surgical Center in Dover, New Hamphire as surgeon, lameness diagnostician and was instrumental in creating and developing their advanced imaging program(including CE CT, MRI and Nuclear scintigraphy). Omar became Board Certified in Equine Surgery in 2009 (ACVS), and Board Certified in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2012 (ACVSMR). He is an FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale) accredited veterinarian and served in that function at multiple nations cups. He was also the staff surgeon for the Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2011. Recently, Omar founded Atlantic Equine Services, a practice focusing on sports medicine through out the North East United states and Florida. He has published several clinical articles in peer-reviewed veterinary journals and lectures regularly at national and international courses/conferences on equine lameness and imaging.
More InfoHe qualified as a veterinary surgeon from Cambridge University (UK) in 1987, having obtained a First for his undergraduate degree and a Cambridge Blue at swimming. After 2 years in practice, he returned to academia to undertake further clinical training as a Resident in Equine Studies at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC). Following his residency, he undertook a 3 year research project culminating in the award of a PhD for his studies on the extracellular matrix of equine tendon, a field in which he still focusses both clinically and through research. He remained at the RVC, first as a Lecturer in Equine Surgery, then as Senior Lecturer in Equine Surgery before his appointment as Professor in Equine Orthopaedics in December 2003. He holds the Diploma of Equine Orthopaedics from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Specialist in Equine Surgery. He is a Diplomate of the European Colleges of Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, and is also a Large Animal Imaging Associate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. In 2016, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for meritorious contribution to knowledge and was elected Presidents of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in July 2017 and the British Equine Veterinary Association in September 2023. In addition to running a research group investigating tendon disease in horses and humans, Roger provides specialist orthopaedic consultancy in all areas of equine orthopaedics, including lameness diagnosis, diagnostic imaging and orthopaedic surgery.
